Whole procedure is done laparoscopically. Through small incisions in the upper abdomen, standard port placements are done. Liver retraction is done using Nathanson’s liver retraction technique. Vertical sleeve gastrectomy is done over 36 Fr Bougie using Covidien tri stapler or Johnson & Johnson staplers. Methylene blue dye study is done to check for leakage. After achieving adequate hemostasis, specimen is retrieved and port sites are closed. Patient is allowed to walk approx 2 hours after the surgery. More than 95% of patients don’t need an ICU stay and are shifted to a private room a few hours post surgery.
