Dr Amit Garg, Chief Consultant, Bariatric & Metabolic Surgery, Fortis Hospital, Mohali addressing a press conference in Patiala shared regarding new line of treatment for patient suffering from Type 2 Diabetes. He shared, “Till date, diabetes is poorly understood and medical treatment cannot claim a “Cure”.. Within the last 20–30 years, Metabolic Surgery has become a common treatment for obesity in individuals both with and without Type 2 diabetes. According to the recent guidelines given by world Diabetes Associations (American Diabetic Association, International Diabetes Federation, Diabetes U.K.) Metabolic Surgery is recommended as the first line of treatment for Type 2 Diabetes in patients with BMI of > 37.5Kg/m2. The aim is to put it in remission, defined as normal blood sugar levels and no need for diabetes medication”
